Orchestra

The Chamber Orchestra was formed to play ad-
vanced music specifically written for smaller groups. Un-
der jane Hallet's direction, the skilled and dedicated play-
ers have enjoyed performing clas-
sic pieces such as Mozart's "Eine
Kleine Nachtmusik" as well as
Feese's modern 'jazz Waltz." High-
lights of senior year included two
performances of Vivaldi's "Gloria"
with two local parish choirs.
Other favorites include the
"Capriol Suite," "Contrasts in E

Band

This year's band members were led by President
Paul Muldoon, Vice-President Adam Iser, Secretary Ben
Spruill and Treasurer Lacey Pustizzi. Throughout the
year the band held fundraisers to support a trip to

Atlanta for a music festi-
val. There have been trips
to Washington D.C., Mary-
land and Virginia. Mr.
Wauchope's admirable ef-
forts have helped to lead
to the success of these
competitions.

chorus

The class of '98 was a close group. Though they were few in number,
they brought a lot to the chorus during their four years. From the difficult
major works like "Requiem," "Messiah," and "Camina Burana," to the humor-
ous tunes of 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" and "Charlie
on the M.T.A., " the seniors showed their musical talent and their enthusiasm.
Seniors, always remember: Funky Frosh... A-period high notes... Cumberland,

ME... Weston, CT... those
fancy buses... watching
the Simpsons ... trying on
prom dresses in CT... hik-
ing... Weston dance...
fruit sale... "follow the
drinking gourd"...

Marino'sbanquets
..."Clouds..." trolls and
pretty princesses (who's
the best?)... "Miss
Saigon"... spring festival...
and of course, the junior
suite!!

The seniors are all smiles after their last major
works concert.

Drama Club

This year's Drama club musical "Hello Dolly" set a new record for
the number of cast and crew involved. The one hundred -fifty member
group was led by co-presidents Amanda Diorio and Elizabeth Olson,
making it the largest extracurricular club at the high school. The club's
one act play "Fools" will have its "flannel Vengence' at the Drama festi-
val where we will host the semi-fmals led by the always inspirational
Ned Flanders(Mr. Higgins). The club took a third bus to New York City
this year. This new bus was named "Zeus." To help pay for the weekend
journey to the Big Apple, the Drama Mamas(parents of the drama stu-
dents) set up a plethora of fund raisers while always checking their cars
for vapor lock. As the club says goodbye to the class of '98 it also says

Thespian Society

The Thespian Society is an elite group of
dedicated drama students. An average "thes-
Dian" has done a lot of work on the stage or
Dehind the scenes in technical areas. These
are the people who make our Hingham High
School productions spectacular, and their tal-
ent in acting and singing consistently earns
rave reviews. In addition, the Hingham High
group has the largest number of Thespians in
Massachusetts.

HarboHight

The long hours were all worth it! The
HarboHight staff, led by Editor Kate Harrington
and Assistant Editor Lizzie Ford, was able to pro-
duce a wonderful newspaper this year. The
Harborlight staff worked hard to generate the
paper entirely within the school. All issues were
even printed in the Graphic Arts room under
the direction of Mr. Boddie. Special thanks to
advisor Mrs. Rehnquist for the editing and guid-
ance she provided!

"Harborlight crunch time was incredibly hectic. It was also one of my best
HHS experiences. Our dedicated mini staff bonded over bagels, M&M's, and also
managed to get the Harborlight into print if not entirely on time. Thanks guys...you're
the greatest... and HEY.. ..people really do read this paper!" -Lizzie Ford

morning. These are your Hingnam High School daily
notices for.. .Well, that's what we heard every morn-

the laughs were always there- but that's what made

always the occassional Friday show! Hingham High

Senior Video

The senior video was something that was
appreciated by all. With Liz Olson's past lead-
ership experience with Junior Video, and the
help of several other seniors- Karen Bonner,
Rose Papuga, Lynda McCarey, Devin Sylvester,
Tanisha Ranger, and others- the video was a
success. Members of the staff attended vari-
ous sporting events and other activities
throughout the year to ensure that all class
memories were captured.

Every year the seniors in the Student Council have
done a great job designing our wall.

58

student Council

Throughout our time at HHS, Student Council has been the true embodiment of Class of 98
spirit. Freshmen year, the six foot tall turkey on our class wall at the Thanksgiving Pep Rally set the
standard for our remaining years. Together we worked our way through disco fever, the lighthouse,
and big rocket. We've cooked hot dogs (sort of), shivered our way through yard sales and carw ashes,
and hung more balloons and streamers than you would ever want to know. We have helped around
the school and community with fund-raisers, volunteer work, and founding of B.L.U.E. (Be a Leader
Understanding Equality). Basically, we have spent countless hours working to make the past four
years the best possible. ...and we've loved every minute of it. The planning, shopping excursions,

road trips, secret meetings,
and pancake breakfasts have
been so filled with laughter
that the work flew by. When
we sit back and see everyone
enjoying themselves at
Sophmore Barbecue or Junior
Prom, it makes it all worth-
while. Thanks to all the par-
ents, students and faculty who
have contributed their time
over the years. A special
thanks to our advisor, Ms.
Student Council officers: Tres. Christina Seremetis,Pres. Breen, who has helped us

Melissa Christino, V.P. Rachel Blumberg, Sec. Katie through everything. Donuts,

Pelletier anyone?

National Honor Society

The 1998 Hingham chapter of the National Honor Society had great
fun and made outstanding contributions to the community. NHS' dinner
meetings were held throughout the year and were opportunities to relax,
hang out with friends, and enjoy delicious Italian suppers. In December,
members were honored at an elegant candlelight induction ceremony. Here,
inductees enjoyed chamber music, chocolate cake, and hilarious- and touch-
ing- comments made by speaker, Mrs. Rehnquist. Under the leadership of
President Laura Caldwell, Vice-President Ben Levine, Secretary Emily Man-
ning, and Treasurer
Mike Tremblay, club
members worked at the
food pantry, tutored lo-
cal children and volun-
teered as open house
guides. Hingham's 1998
NHS worked hard to im-
prove our community,
and had a great time
doing it.

Intergenerational

The Intergenerational Club kicked off its sixth year with
operation overcoat, one of many projects they are involved in.
This club consists of high school students and senior citizens
working together to service the community. Working side by
side contributes to a greater understanding of each other and
results in a desire to become advocates for one another in every
way - fiscally, socially, and politically. With generational equity
issues becoming nationally recognized issues of importance, the
need for this mutual advocacy is crucial. The sense of accom-
plishment and camaraderie among different age groups has been
one of their greatest achievements.

The AFS Club is one of the largest clubs at
Hingham High. The club tries to help the for-
eign exchange students at HHS aquaint them-
selves with American life and culture and help
them feel more at home at HHS. Throughout
the year AFS has activities that benefit both our
community and the club members. Every year
the club holds an all night dance-a-thon to raise
money for the annual short term exchange. In
the past three years, AFS has traveled to West
Virginia, North Carolina, and Washington D.C.
The plans for 1998 include a week long exchange
to California.

The Spanish Club has had a very successful year. This club traveled to Boston
with Scnor Mulry to see a Flamenco show, a traditional Spanish style of dance and music
of Gypsy origin which is popular in southern Spain. The Spanish Club is also planning
another trip, this time to eat at Tapeo, a Spanish restaurant. The club is also looking
forward to their Cinco de Mayo fiesta, celebrating France's expulsion from Mexico.

French Club

La boum anyone? The French Club was much more than weeknight movies. The
club also took trips to Boston to see French flicks, museums, and restaurants on Newbury

Latin Club

The Latin Club is for everyone who gets
really excited over translating a couple hun-

great Roman orgy, the annual end of the
year cookout that's always lots of fun. Your
"slave" cooks you beef, onions, peppers, and
anything else you want, gets you a drink,
and if you really insist, wipes your mouth
for you. Regular meetings aren't as excit-

Roman movies from the 1960's and plenty
of pizza.

"Students for Environmental Action" is a group of die-hard students
who meet together every Friday for the noble task of sticking their hands in
a trash bin to remove really smelly cans. The funky odors from week-old
fermenting juice would drive away even the most stout-hearted, but not this
devoted bunch. This year, they've decided to tackle a new project, recycling
paper, in addition to their weekly can stomping. Even though they pick through
other people's trash, they stick with it because they're saving the planet.

Oceanography Club

Under the guidance of Mr. Crowley, our resident oceanogra-
phy expert, Hingham High School's Oceanography Club had a very
eventful year. Our small group of ocean-minded students spent
time spreading basic knowledge of our local marine habitat around
town. After our elections in the fall, we practiced setting up
Hmgham Harbor habitats in all of the sixth grade classes. We then
began the aquarium contest at the elementary schools and jumped
right into the role of assistant directors, helping write, choreo-
graph, and produce the first grade play at South Elementary School.
In the winter, our club will be the first ever to represent Hingham
High at the Oceanography Super Bowl at the World Trade Center
in Boston. Though we have been busy, it's not all work. We always
find time to go wading at the yacht club, set some crab traps, and
laugh at Mr. Crowley's waders. As a group, we have grown very
close and enjoyed learning and adventuring together. Pave the
Rainforest with Plankton II!

G LO RY DAYS

Glory Days. ..The true glory of the Class of 1998 shone through the falling
rain on the night of Junior Prom. After one look at the fabulous decora-
tions, everyone knew the night was going to be a success. The dresses were
gorgeous, the tuxedos were stylin', and of course, the dance floor was jumpin'.
The D.J. kept us moving with wild music and showers of leis and crazy hats.
The only time we stopped groovin' was when everyone gathered to share a
smile and watch the terrific Junior Video. In true Class of '98 style, we a
came together,
danced the night
away, and had a

The bright sun shining down on Hingham High on Homecoming Day 1 997 only
added to the excitement surrounding the day's activities. From the first boys'
soccer game right through the football game* the teams were Pumped, the
crowds were wild* and the spirit was high. Although field hockey was the only
victorious team* the whole town showed up to support everyone. The parade
was better than ever* with the Senior "Light of the Future"* the clear first-Place

THE DnncE...

Hingham students certainly got a vigorous workout at
Homecoming '97 as they migrated from the cafeteria to the
gym in search of good music and a happening dance floor.
Space was limited this year, but fortunately everyone was
able to get a ticket. As always, nothing could stop us from

tearing up the dance floor and par-
tying late into the night.

Boys' AND Girls'

Cross Country

This year's Cross Country team does not go down in history as one
with the most wins, but as one with the most spirit. The girls' team earned
three wins and five losses, but produced outstanding performances. The
girls' team was led by junior co-captain Christina Seremetis, Courtney
Allen, Kristin Skrine and senior Laura Caldwell. Senior co-captain
Martha Clark, along with juniors Allison Melia and Kelly Lynch were
other great performers who added enthusiasm and depth to the team.
The underclassmen also scored points for the team and contributed greatly
to an excellent season. The members of the boys' team made major
personal improvements throughout the season, although they did not come
away with any wins. The top finishers for the boys team were captain
Mark Bologna along with sophmores Tyler Neilson, Jamie Diorio and
Micah Weisburg. Both groups of athletes made major improvements
over the season and showed great prospects for the upcoming year.

Boys' Soccer

The 1997 Soccer season had its ups and downs for the boys at
Hingham High School. The team was lead by tri-captains Alex White,
Phil Finn, and Paul Muldoon. Highlights of the 1997 season included
a 2-1 victory over Whitman-Hanson and 2-2 tie against Plymouth
South. The Harbormen gave up few goals this year with Alex White
in goal and a defense built around Ben Spruill, Ryan Wilson, Alexis
Studley, and Garry Bismore. Seniors Phil Finn, Paul Muldoon, Adam
Florey, and Topher Gudmand controlled the midfield, while Ryan
McDonough led the offense attack. Although the Harbormen did not
make the tournament. Coach Forrell felt that this was one of his more
talented teams. Phil Finn, Alex White, and Ben Spruill were named
League All-Stars. Next year's team looks to be strong and will be led
by many talented underclassmen.

Girls' Soccer

Hingham High Girls' Soccer was taken to a new
level this year by new coach Guy Enoch. The team's
record does not reflect the improvement and dedica-
tion of its players. A short passing game was imple-
mented for the first time this year. Highlights include
a tie against ACL powerhouse Duxbury 0-0, and a 1-0
win over Whitman-Hanson in Hingham's last home
game. Co-captains Melissa Christino and Jan St.Pierre
and seniors Megan Aucoin, Katie Gianferante, Paula
Habel, and Lynda
McCarey played excep-
tionally well, providing an
example for the younger
players on the team.

The 1997 Football Cheerleaders really came a long way
to becoming what they are. They were all dedicated and enthu-
siastic and really got the crowd going. They attended Univer-
sal Cheerleaders Association camp(UCA) for four days over
the summer and came out an entirely different squad. There ,
they learned new cheers, fancy stunts, and exciting dances which
they displayed at games and pep-rallies. At camp the entire
squad qualified to perform in the Citrus Bowl in Florida. They
accepted the offer with pride and excitement. Cristina Barbuto
qualified to go to London as well as an All- Star cheerleader,
but she decided to stick with her squad in attending the Citrus
Bowl. Deidre Londregan made the most improvement of all by
showing more and more enthusiasm and dedication. Mary Ellen
O'Donnell was the organizer who always had things planned
and written out for the benefit of the team. There were a lot of
good times, laughter and hard work. Things to remember: -Big
offenders-, "I'm wicked phyched!" No practice... gossip time!
La choo choo, and Ladies night. The girls really enjoyed what
they did and they were happy that the season went well for them.

Football

Whatever it takes! 1-9. Not the best season, but under the circum-
stances, we tried our best. Without two out of the three tri-captains,( sideHned
Jeff Shore re-injuring his ACL, and Matt Stephansky breaking his collar bone
in the last scrimmage of the pre-season,)we didn't start out on the right foot.
Trying to replace key positions before the first game, we fell short on Home-
coming against Hanover and then the next week to Randolph. The following
week we pulled things together and got ourselves our first win in Nantucket.
This being Nantucket's first loss in 14 years. ..things were looking better. Cap-
tain Ron Lawrence took the responsibility of leading the team himself, and
ended up rushing over 1 ,000 yards to become one of the three All-Star running
backs in the Atlantic Coast League. Bryan Smith also played a great year and
received a honorable mention as a defensive all-star of the Atlantic Coast
League. Other seniors stepped it up and played a great season: Carlo Agostino,
Pat Ryan, Ken Bycoff, Erik Johnson, Sean Coleman, Joe Primo, Brendan Duff
and Tim French. Too many things to remember.. .Nutty's Smoothie stories, the
Cobra, Smitty losing 40 lbs and gaining an attitude, and two idiot tackles. We
can look back at the last four years and say that we played hard and had fun.

This year's winter track team was one full of team spirit
and excellent athletes. The team was lead by captains Paul
Muldoon, Ben Spruill and Ben Hallet, Martha Clark, Courtney
Allen and Christina Seremetis. This season was made famous
by an outstanding 4x400 relay team made up of Paul Muldoon,
Ben Hallet, Ben Spruill, and Evan Lindquist. Excellent per-
formances in the high jump were displayed be Paul Muldoon,
Ben Spruill and Jeff Wilbum. The girls team also displayed
terrific performances by juniors Rosamund Healy throwing
shotput, Kelly Lynch on hurdles, as well as Kristin Skrine and
Christina Seremetis leading the distance team. Our under-
classmen show great prospects for a successful team in the
future. This year's winter track team was not only outstanding

In the 1997-1998 wrestling season, the team proved to be the one of the
most dominant forces on the South Shore. Winning the ACL, the Whitman
Hanson Tournament, and the Marshfield Holiday Tournament, the team ral-
lied with a 20-5 season record. Impressive starters were Dave Swanson, Dan
Primo, Carlo Agostino, Peter Youssef, Chris Primo, Craig Buckley, and heavy-
weight Brian White. Big winners were also Joe Primo, Chad Saltmarsh, Chris
Bleidorn, and Matt Hersey. The team would like to thank coaches Dave
DiMarino and head coach Bill Barges. Great sportsmanship and hard work
were enforced by the four impresseve captains :Carlo, Swanson, Buckley, and

The winter season of '97-'98 proved to be a special one for the
HHS girls basketball team. The team was led by five seniors- Mel-
issa Christino, Jan St. Pierre, and Tri-captains Megan Aucoin, Paula
Habel and Stacey Saggese. The five seniors have become great friends
while playing together since elementary school in youth and travel
leagues. Backed by a team of five juniors and one sophmore, the
future looks bright for the girls' team. Ending the season with a league
record of 13-5, the team looks forward to a great 4th trip to the tour-
ney. This season has been the best! There have been numerous spa-

Boys' Basketball

The winter of '97-'98 provided one of the most talented
teams to ever come out of Hingham High. The five seniors
included Captain Pat Durgin, Andrew Monticone, Jamie Lyons,
Ryan McDonough, and Stick Ryan. These five seniors were
complemented very nicely by talented underclassmen. Between
the seniors and the fiery attitude of Coach Phelan, Hingham
basketball is now on the map and a respected powerhouse in
Division II South. Coming off a winning season of 13-7 from
a year ago, we have great expectations for the coming years.

This year's hockey team had a productive season. After eas-

"It's not if you win or lose... it's how you play the game." That pretty
much sums up the season. The team did not have the greatest season, but
they did work especially hard. Captains Katie Martin and Amanda Diorio
displayed their leadership for the many freshman additions to the team.
With Coach Maura Zaccardi and first year assistant Aly Tester, the team
broke a score of 100 twice, beating the team's record of the previous year.
Suffering from multiple injuries and adjusting to anew gym, the team fought
for an unforgetable season . Long live Kimmy the Monkey!

The Hingham High Boys' Varsity Tennis team is loaded
with talent! Individual accomplishments were notable. At sec-

his bright red bandana and his powerful serve. Kenny MacLean
and Chris Balsamo showed no mercy at third singles with their
quick feet and dynamic strokes. First doubles team Ben Levine
and John Indrisano unified and worked together to put their
opponents to shame. Whether on the court playing a match, or
cheering from the side, the team showed a great deal of enthu-
siasm. In retrospect, Ben Levine states, "the tennis team rox

Girls' Tennis

The Girls' Varsity tennis team finished off a tremendous 1997
season. Not only did they place first in the Atlantic Coast League with
an undefeated season at 16-0, but advanced to the semi-finals in the

state tournament. With an extra effort in
singles from newcomer Molly Prendergast
and veteran Caitlin Fahey, and an undefeated
season for Britton Lacy, the team always felt
assured. At first doubles, Kelly ann and
Courtney Jeffries were a great match up and
proved that sisters can in fact read each
other's mind in game strategy. Nancy Fine
and Allison Walsh racked in the points at
second doubles and were always counted on
to tear it up at net! As the season went on,
the team seemed to get closer and depend on
each other for support. You could always
rely on loud cheers and encouraging words
at the matches. Bus rides brought everyone
together, discussing daily stresses and just be-
ing loud and stupid, getting pumped for
matches. Mrs. Sides was a great coach who
always knew what to say and also let us eat
all of her birthday cake! ! ! ! The '98 season is
a very promising one with returning seniors Laura Caldwell, Lizzie
Ford,Kendra Juhola, Christine Ryberg, Angela Agostino, Kerry Landers,
and co-captains Allison Walsh and Courtney Jeffries. In addition to the
many seniors, we also have several young players who intend to

Boys' AND Girls'

Spring Track

The 1998 spring track season is expected to be successful for the
girls' team. With returning Most Valuable Player senior captain Inge
Kuipers expected to dominate sprinting and jumping events, senior cap-

Harrington leading the throwing events, Hingham should have a produc-
tive season. The team also has promising junior athletes, including shot-

and showed great potential for the future. All of the athletes displayed

After a disappointing season in 1997, the
Harbormen hope to bounce back by winning the
Atlantic Coast League title, and hopefully a state
title as well. This year's team is led by senior
outfielders Ryan McDonough and senior
pitcher/infielders Jamie Harrison and Brian
Shney. Breandan Duff, who won an MVP for
his defense last season, will also be a key player
in the coming season. Seniors Tim Gibson,
Bryan Smith, and Matt Landry will help the
Harbormen offensively as well as in the field.

The boys are mentally preparing themselves.

Sailing

The Hingham Sailing Team completed its 1997
season in unthinkable fashion, finishing in first place
in the Massachusetts Bay League Sail-offs. Sailing
out of, and sometimes into. Community Boating on
the Charles River, the sailing team belongs to the
Mass. Bay League, New England School Sailing As-
sociation, and the Interscholastic Sailing Associa-
tion. The 1998 season will be led by coach Tom
Knowlton and senior co-captains Keith Knowlton
and Mark Lewis.
Things to remember:

Mark- What bridge are you talking about... oh?

Keith- Like my cap strap?

Ryan- Are you making fun of my pink shoes?

Megan- Oh, CVS... I can do some school shop-
ping!

This year's golf team

Captain Chris Parlee, se-

sophomores Kevin

Chris Parlee advanced to
the State Individual Tour-

at a strong fifth. The team
would like to express their
appreciation to Mr.

strong and positive influ-

Powder Puff

The fastest, fiercest, and most ferocious members of the
Class of '98 took the field for Powderpuff 199 7. ..the girls.
Our annual bloodbath-I mean football game between the Se-
nior women and the Junior girls, was a matter of revenge.
The last minute switch to two-hand-touch wasn't enough to
cool down the tempers of the fired up Seniors. It took about
five minutes for the Seniors to realize that a lot of damage
can be done with two hands. The many hours of tough prac-
tice, painful drills, and endless tickle-machine runs payed off
on the field. A supportive coaching staff and sheer determi-
nation fueled the Seniors to a 12-0 win over the Juniors. We
would like to thank all our coaches for their time and pa-
tience. Don't forget girls - it's always better after a win!

Edna St. Vincent Millay
from "Renascence"
The world stands out on either side
No wider than the heart is wide;
Above the world is stretched the sky,-
No higher than the soul is high.
The heart can push the sea and land
Farther away on either hand;
The soul can split the sky in two,
And let the face of God shine through.

Kate,

How sweet to remember what was and

how exciting to think of what will be.

All our love.

PATRICK,

Thank you for all your help and support- we

couldn't have gotten the pizza without you!!!

For three people that didn't expect to become

really good friends, we became a close family!

Reminding you to get back to work finally paid

off. You did a better job than we could have

ever done.
